Mt. Crested Butte

The town of Mt. Crested Butte, Colorado, also known as Mt. CB, lies three miles up the road from the town of Crested Butte. It’s nestled at the base of Crested Butte Mountain, offering unparalleled access to downhill skiing and a mountain biking park. The Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) is also located at the base. ASC enhances the quality of life of people with disabilities through exceptional winter and summer outdoor activities. On top of the extreme sports, you’ll also find plenty of activities for kids of all ages to enjoy, including live music every Wednesday night in summer. Public lands access abounds, with hiking and mountain biking trails (including the famous Snodgrass Trail) radiating every direction from the town. It’s easy to get to Mt. CB from Crested Butte or Gunnison via the free bus system.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Mt. Crested Butte is home to our favorite ski resort in the Rocky Mountains: Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Known for extreme terrain and quirky locals, Crested Butte Mountain also earned the moniker “High Church of Skiing” from the editor of Powder Magazine. No matter your level of skiing, you will find something on that mountain that will progress your skiing and challenge you.

Other things to do in Mt. Crested Butte

During the summer months, take a scenic chairlift ride or zipline through the trees. If you came to mountain bike, the Crested Butte Mountain Bike Park (formerly known as Evolution Bike Park) offers some of the best beginner-friendly downhill mountain bike trails in the state. It’s a great place to go if you’re a group of mixed abilities. Hot Dogger and Awakening are green runs perfect for beginners.

The Mt. CB Arts Scene

Although known for its heritage of extreme sports, Mt. Crested Butte also has a thriving arts scene. The Lodge at Mountaineer Square is home to a gallery featuring the work of local artists. In summer, you can catch a concert every Wednesday night.

Mt. Crested Butte is the lodging epicenter of the Gunnison Valley. From large slopeside hotels to small vacation condo rentals, you can find any type of lodging in Mt. Crested Butte.

Mt. Crested Butte Restaurants

The dining scene in Mt. Crested Butte is grounded in après-ski and bike culture. You’ll find a wide variety of options from good, cheap pizza and beer to one of the Gunnison Valley’s fanciest restaurants featuring tapas and wine. On winter and early spring afternoons, you’ll find tired skiers telling tales of the day’s turns and planning for the next day. During the summer, skiers are replaced by bikers, but the vibe is the same.
