Gunnison Valley Cross Country Skiing

Gunnison Valley Cross Country Skiing

Gunnison Valley, Colorado

The Gunnison-Crested Butte area is a winter wonderland for cross country skiing. Endless powder fields, Hartman Rocks Recreation Area in Gunnison with its expansive views and unique rock formations and glistening forests in the alpine woods in the north valley in Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte offer both visitors and locals with perfectly groomed track, skate skiing and the opportunity to bust your own trail!   We have two dedicated Nordic clubs who take pride in caring for this wonderful asset.

The goal of Gunnison Nordic is to provide high-quality groomed cross-country trails close to the City of Gunnison and to sponsor events and activities that promote Nordic skiing in the area. To view the Groomers Report click here. Gunnison Nordic, a 501© (3), has been successfully operating since the winter of 2004 setting ski track at Hartman Rocks, W Mountain Ranch,  Van Tuyl Ranch and Mill Creek. On average the club keeps 40-45K set for free public use. We operate under our own insurance and a permit issued by the United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and coordination with City of Gunnison Parks and Recreation and Gunnison County Public Works.  For more information use this email link or visit GunnisonNordic.org. The club maintains a public Nordic waxing room at the Jorgensen Center complex for the public; just remember to bring your "wax du jour"!   Look for us on Facebook.

The Crested Butte Nordic Council (CBNC) serves residents of and visitors to Gunnison County throughout the winter months, offering cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowshoeing, guided tours and sledding. Our mission is to provide individuals of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn, enjoy and improve in the sports of cross-country (Nordic) skiing and snowshoeing.

Our objectives are 1) to acquire access and professionally groom a trail system for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the Crested Butte area; 2) to provide quality rental equipment, professional instruction and guiding services, serving Gunnison County residents and visitors; and 3) to support and develop amateur athletes for regional and national competition in the sport of Nordic skiing, and to conduct such competition.

The CBNC was formally organized in 1987. As a non-profit 501(c)(3), we are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by the membership at our annual meeting each November. We employ 20-25 staff (seasonally) and utilize innumerable volunteers to provide a variety of services to all residents and visitors interested in Nordic skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing.
