Living Journeys' Summit Hike
Photos by Alex Fenlon August 7, 2010 Since its inception 10 years ago as a grass roots non-profit organization, Living Journeys has provided direct support to Gunnison Valley Residents who are struggling with cancer. This support can be in the form of direct financial grants to help offset the expense of medical bills and travel related to cancer treatment or financial assistance to pay ordinary living expenses such as rent and food when the cancer lessens the ability of the patient to work. Living Journeys also provides emotional support by supplying individual and group counseling sessions to those affected by cancer or their families. Every August for the past ten years, hikers and volunteers from around the world have gathered to climb to the peak of Mt. Crested Butte (12,162 feet) in celebration of lives touched by cancer. As the main fundraiser for Living Journeys, the Summit Hike is exciting and much anticipated by many both in the community and visitors alike. The funds raised allow Living Journeys to continue our work and carry out our mission to provide emotional and financial support, education and awareness to Gunnison County residents living with cancer and their loved ones. Living Journeys' 2009 Summit Hike was the tenth anniversary of the Summit Hike and raised record numbers. Your participation in the hike or donation online will allow Living Journeys to continue our work. For more information please visit our website at livingjourneys.org. Thank you and we look forward to your continued support in years to come.
