Rock Climbing

While our great Rocky Mountains have plenty of places to “go climb a rock,” there are some favorite spots up the Taylor Canyon Road where there are sheer and challenging rock faces right off the road which seem to lure beginner and expert climbers. Our local outfitters can point you in the right direction to some other favorite climbing spots.

Indoor Climbing Wall

A new 30’ climbing wall is open to the public at the Gunnison Community Center located at 200 E. Spencer, in Gunnison (just North of Wal-Mart).
There are 6 self-belay stations/routes ascending the 30 foot wall. The routes are frequently changed to maintain a challenge for the repeat guest.
Harnesses are provided, but no shoe rentals are available, so bring your own. Don’t have climbing shoes? No worries, you can use any shoe you want, we just suggest leaving the high heels at home!
The wall is open to anyone 5 years and older as long as there is an Instructor present. For those who would like to climb outside the Instructor’s hours you can be “certified” by an Instructor. Those with certifications may climb any-time during Center hours.
A liability waiver and fee are the only requirements, youth under the age of 18 must have a legal guardian sign the liability waiver before-hand.
