Whitewater Rafting
Two primary Rivers near Crested Butte serve up some of Colorado's premier whitewater fun. The steep, fast Taylor River keeps kayakers on their game and gives rafters a roller-coaster ride. The Gunnison River, one of the largest tributaries to the Colorado River, has all the ingredients of a classic family raft trip: gorgeous scenery, a relaxing flow, and refreshingly cool, clear water.

Fishing
With an abundance of high-mountain streams, lakes, and rivers, the Crested Butte area is truly an Anglers' paradise. Walk and wade within minutes of Crested Butte or travel deep into the backcountry. Cast for Rainbows, Browns, Brookies, and Cutthroats in the gold-metal water of the Taylor River, or explore the Gunnison River, recently awarded the best freestone Trout river in the country. Irwin also provides access to a private ranch with 25 lakes. The Irwin fishing experiences could fill an entire vacation!

Hiking
A bounty of scenic hiking trails surround Crested Butte, leading to lakes, overlooks, and high summits in the rugged Elk Mountains; a few even start right from town. July and August, when the meadows are flush with the varied colors of Columbines, Lupine, Indian Paintbrush, and other blooms, are downright magical. All you need is a pair of hiking boots and the desire to be wowed. Call 1.866.IRWIN.77 or email RESERVATIONS@IRWINCOLORADO.COM to book or inquire.

Boating
Lake Irwin is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with the entire family or a group of friends. Canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards (SUP's), and even sailboats will give you a great variety of crafts to choose from to experience this special place. After an introduction and safety briefing our guides will provide instruction for each type of craft and accompany you on the water for a high quality guided experience. You can even drop a line from your craft and catch a Rainbow Trout. Horseback Riding
Ranching is still a time-honored tradition around Crested Butte, and horses are a way of life. From one-hour trail rides to breakfast to dinner outings, riders have multiple opportunities to travel high into the mountains while viewing the breathtaking surroundings from the saddle. You can even ride over the mountains to Aspen, through the spectacular Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, with a return the next day.

Cat Skiing
Irwin has it's own unique weather system. Winter storms sweep across the western deserts and the first mountains they encounter are the rugged west Elk Mountains, which is home to Irwin. Due to our unique location Irwin receives two to three times the amount of snow that Crested Butte receives, with an average of 600 inches a season. Irwin rivals the likes of Alta, Utah and the Canadian Rockies more so than any other Colorado resort. We get consistent storms of low-density snow and therefore ski a lot of high quality, dry, fluffy powder. Our vast terrain consists of 1,000+ acres of private property and National Forest. Terrain selection is dependent on group ability and snow conditions. The passenger cabs on the snowcats are heated, very comfortable, provide absolutely phenomenal views, and rival to be the most luxurious snowcats in the world. Skiers often comment that they enjoy the social aspect of the snowcat rides. We generally get in 8-12 runs a day and around 10-15,000 feet of vertical.
